Worship Ministry, Songwriting, and other crazy stuff

Ministry Com in Nashville

Back in the office after a trip to Nashville. I had intended to go a few days early with Jodie but because her dad was in the hospital I ended up canceling my writing appointments and traveling with Nathan to the Ministry Com. The conference was mind expanding for me.  I went to some facinating sessions on video production, branding (marketing not cattle), journalism, and Church 2.0 (the culture shift in church).  So many things talked about there are what we are dealing with at College Heights right now.

We hooked up with Nathan Shaver while we were there and went to the Sputnik Studio, where he is finishing up a record. We met producer Mitch Dane and his sidekick Josh while we were there and got in on the end of a session.  We got to talking about equipment.  I told Josh about the time a Speak and Spell our kids had mafunctioned and started pronouncing non-words like "gmoplrup".  He then reached up to a top shelf in the control room and retreved a small homemade box with switches and knobs and began to produce the familiar sounds of Speak and Spell from it.  We took Nathan out to Bucco de Beppo's and had a great time catching up.

Friday night we went to a concert by Andrew Osenga (Caedman's Call) in a little church north of Nashville. Nathan gave him some DVD of a couple of Normals concerts he recorded years ago.  Andrew said he was anxious to get them up on their website.

We ate lunch with my son Nathanael at Pancake Pantry before we left for home.  It was good to see him.  He is working like crazy at Fido Coffee shop and is playing different venues in town.  He is playing at SMU in Springfield, MO next tuesday.

I got back in time to go to Christ Church's "Fall Family Gathering" with Jodie.  It was great to be with our married children there and enjoy the worship.
