Just talk about Jesus
Word came tonight before the service that Roy Weece in now with Jesus, the One he talked about to everyone he met. On Resurrection Day I spent the evening with his family at Jay and Julie's house. What a privilege to lead them in worship and hear his final charge to them. It was obvious the Lord was helping him. For the past few weeks, because of the cancer, he had been nearly unable to speak- so different from a few months ago. It reminded me of dad's final charges to our family.
That night Roy shared with his family about studying God's three books. The book of creation, the book of His words (bible), and the book of names (His people). It was moving to hear his ask each member of the family if their name was written there and for them to respond. It is the central question. Jesus told his disciples that was THE reason to rejoice...that their names were written in heaven.
That was the focus of Roy's ministry- evangelism. When I was in college I used to work in the AV department in the library. Roy was a regular speaker on campus and in conventions. One of his talks that affected me greatly was "Seven ways to talk about Jesus"- sharing ways to open spritual conversations with strangers. I listen to that tape over and over. It was filled with the conversion experiences of those he simply talked to about Jesus. Literally he has introduced thousands to the Lord, sometimes baptizing them in a roadside lake just like Philip the evangelist.
When He preached, he would have the scripture text of the sermon memorized and the conviction of the Spirit in his words . I heard him speak on a secular campus one time where a particular faculty member known for giving christians a hard time was listening. Afterward they had a long conversation pertaining to the old testament. Later I heard that this professor no longer ridiculed his christian students.
Roy knows his great reward now and has left a rich legacy in his life, his teaching, and in his children.
His faith still speaks..."Let's just talk about Jesus"
