I spent the day yesterday writing with Jaime Jam. (If you don't have her CD “Reason to Live“...you need it) I came in with a worship chorus idea that I thought might be in the direction she was headed. We completed the chorus quickly. The verse lyrics ideas I brought weren't as intimate as the chorus became, so after lunch we scavenged the ideas and wrote new lines. By the end of the afternoon we had something that really moved us. She is going to take it back and play around with it.
Today was a very rich day. I met in the morning with Marty. I got there a little early and though I had a few ideas in mind for the session, as I sat there in the writing room, a new idea struck me. When he got there we went to on it work right away. Marty says some of his best ideas come to him in the elevator on the way up to the writing rooms. Wow, when it clicks, it clicks. Marty is such an encouragement and oozes chord progressions. We wrote a big 'ol Easter anthem. I could hear the timpani rolling. That kind of synergy is amazing when it happens.
I hiked over to Lorraine's for the salad bar for lunch as Sue finished up her session with a couple other writers. She read me the coolest lyric from that write.
Sue and I finished the song we started. She had e-mailed me the second verse lyric but I hadn't put it to melody yet. When we got into it we found the verse was 40 seconds...just to long! So she took out the virtual rewriting scissors and cut them down. Wow, what a difference a few words make. It was much cleaner and clearer. After working through the accent of the phrases I wrote a melody and we did a work tape. There is no feeling like finishing the work tape of a song you love and doing the high five.
On a serious note, Guy asked me to pray for a good friend's little boy named Ethan who was badly burned. Please lift him up to the Lord if you read this.
Had a great day yesterday. My morning appointment with James had to be moved to the afternoon so I ended up going to the Provident building and checking in with Holly. Tony and Brian were in Holly's office. We talked for a while about worship songs. I went to a writing room to do a little writing and Sue Smith came in. She was free for the day so we ended up writing. We spent some time catching up and talked for a while about loving the scripture and sharing some cool thoughts. Chad popped in and told us about his trip to Nairobi. Chad makes me smile. He played a song he had written with some people there in Swahili. It was fun to listen to his adventure. It brought back memories of my trip to Nairobi.
Sue and I ended up heading to lunch and coming back to really start a song. Sue threw out a great idea for a Southern Gospel song and we went to work. Sue is simply a great lyricist. It was great fun to hang on for the ride. It's kind of like finding the right race car, getting it started, and zooming it to the finish. Johnathan popped in to say hi and give Sue some narration to write. We ended up with chorus and verse. And I sat down to write a melody. Sue e-mailed me a second verse last night. It is looking good.
Sue got a call while we were writing. Pray for little Luke who is in the hospital with a virus and pneumonia.
I wrote with James Tealy in the afternoon. It's always a hoot to write with James. I brought an idea from Hebrews that I had been working on. It was great to see it go to the next level.
I intended to go to a show that night. I was invited by someone a musician playing at Estes to come see it, but I couldn't find the venue.
Today I am writing with Jaime Jamgochian. Here we go again.
In Nashville again. Going to church at Fellowship Bible Church tomorrow. Though I enjoy leading worship, it it is always nice when I have a chance to just be in church and not be leading. We are headed to the zoo after church...then a week of writing during the day and time hitting some favorite spots with Jodie and Jubi in the evenings.
It always seems like when I come to Nashville, my e-mail decides to crash. Warfare? I don't know but it looks that way. I'm trying just to chill out and take it in stride. I want to relax and enjoy the week with my family and my co-writers, write my heart out for the Lord, and do whatever else He has in mind. I appreciate your prayers to that end.
Aren't you tired of earthly rulers? Take heart!
~Rom 15:12~ And again, Isaiah says, "The Root of Jesse will spring up, one who will arise to rule over the nations; the Gentiles will hope in him."
~Isa 32:1~ See, a king will reign in righteousness and rulers will rule with justice.
~Isa 9:6-7~ For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
~Rev 11:15~ The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: "The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he will reign for ever and ever."
Weekend services last Sunday...working normal hours during the week...leading worship nightly Sunday through Wed at a nearby church revival with two wonderful preachers -Ken Idleman and Mark Scott...leading Thursday night Prayer Gathering...leading at a college age retreat Friday and Sat...Rehearsals Sat...
